NaaS (Network as a Service) is increasingly being presented to the global communications industry as a means to overcome the hurdles that carriers face as they try to commercialise and monetise SDN and NFV. This is because NaaS involves the optimisation of resource allocations in transport connectivity by taking into full account both network and computing assets as a unified whole. Sometimes NaaS includes the provision of a virtual network service by the owners of the network infrastructure to a third party. Network virtualisation under such circumstances will often involve the use of an open source protocol such OpenFlow.
