Ofcom's Polly Weitzman appointed as CityFibre’s Senior General Counsel

Former Ofcom General Counsel to join CityFibre as it continues the acceleration of its £4bn Full Fibre rollout.

CityFibre, the UK’s third national digital infrastructure platform, today announced the appointment of Polly Weitzman as Senior General Counsel. Polly will join CityFibre after a period of gardening leave from her previous position as General Counsel at Ofcom. The newly created post will report to CityFibre’s Chief Executive, Greg Mesch and Group Chief Operating Officer, Simon Holden and will assume responsibility for all CityFibre’s legal, public policy and regulatory affairs as the company continues to accelerate its investment programme to reach up to 8 million premises in the UK.

Polly is one of the UK’s leading experts in telecoms regulation. She joins from Ofcom’s senior management team after 15 years as its General Counsel. In the role, Polly led the UK regulator’s legal group, providing advice across all policy areas. Prior to this role, Polly was Head of the EC and UK Competition Law Department at the global law firm Dentons.

Greg Mesch, Chief Executive Officer at CityFibre commented: “We are thrilled that Polly will be joining CityFibre’s executive team, bringing her unparalleled expertise in the UK’s digital communications market.

“Polly will join us as CityFibre passes a major inflection point in our growth, accelerating our rollouts to over 100 towns and cities and playing an important role in delivering the Government’s target of Full Fibre nationwide by 2025. At this time, Polly will prove an invaluable asset, working with us to ensure that CityFibre remains a competitive force, driving faster rollouts and improved services across the country.”

Polly Weitzman added: “I am excited at the opportunity to join CityFibre at such a pivotal period in its growth. CityFibre’s rapid progress is critical to realising Britain’s Full Fibre ambitions and to ensuring an increasingly competitive communications infrastructure market for the long-term. I am looking forward to working with the CityFibre team to achieve that goal.”
