Susan James, Head of Product Line NFV, Product Area Cloud Systems, Ericsson
Having cast off their chains after so many years of being locked-in to just one or two vendors, what service providers want above all, now and in the future, is flexibility. Opensource initiatives, bodies and standards are useful and viable ways to focus collaborative efforts to solve the problems of virtualising networks and their functions. Susan James explains that if all vendors can be convinced of the benefits of developing all network services and applications on a common source code, great things can be achieved at great speed and this will accelerate the industry to ensure that it is in the right place, at the right time, as IoT and 5G assume ever greater importance.
