For Deutsche Telekom, open networking is one of the main tools with which it can take control of its own fate. It says telcos cannot continue working the same work with the current 'black box' vendor model; it is far too slow and penalises the smaller telcos, who have to wait longer for new feature introductions and often have to use whatever the larger telcos manage to develop with vendors. The disaggregation of hardware and software gives telcos the opportunity to take more control. Vendors need to continue to open up their operating systems and ensure operation across multiple hardware.
