Miami-Dade County Joins AT&T Smart Cities Initiative

Residents in Miami-Dade County could soon experience improvements in areas like public safety, public transportation and traffic. AT&T* is on tap to work with the County to explore delivering smart cities solutions. It’s part of a larger effort to create impactful solutions for cities, counties and communities across the country.

Our smart cities framework is a holistic approach. We use Internet of Things (IoT) technology, highly secure connectivity and vertically integrated solutions. Our strategic alliances with key vendors and innovators help make it happen. We have announced plans to bring our smart cities framework to select markets this year.

We now plan to work closely with Miami-Dade, Florida’s most populous county. Together, we’ll develop and deploy technology solutions that address County issues. These solutions could range from smart lighting and Wi-Fi to tools that enhance public safety, improve public transportation, reduce traffic congestion and preserve natural resources.

“Miami-Dade County is excited to team with AT&T to tackle our community’s most pressing challenges head-on,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. “Our 2.7 million residents and millions of visitors will benefit from the continued investments we’re making in our technology infrastructure.”

“I applaud Miami-Dade for its leadership in approaching these issues. They’re tackling it regionally on behalf of the cities and residents they serve,” said Mike Zeto, general manager and executive director, AT&T Smart Cities.

“Miami-Dade is ideal for our smart cities initiative. It has a vast population, expansive urban footprint and thriving entrepreneurial community. We look forward to helping improve the quality of life for its residents,” Zeto said.
