ZTE commits to Circular Business Model by 2025

Signs the Circular Manifest with KPN in Den Haag

October 10, 2017, Den Haag, the Netherlands - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, and other six main KPN suppliers, including global network manufacturers and recycling companies, signed the KPN Circular Manifesto in Den Haag. By signing the Circular Manifesto, these suppliers have agreed to produce by 2025 hardware that is circular by design and implement processes that are more energy efficient for both KPN and its customers.

“Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges in our society and it’s time for action, not words. As the Netherland’s largest ICT provider, we recognize that we have a leading role to play to enable the necessary transition towards a sustainable and increasingly circular economy. That’s why we’re implementing our own circular economy target with a demanding timeline,” said Eelco Blok, CEO of KPN. “We’re very pleased that such important partners have accepted this challenge and share our determination. After all, it’s only by working together that we can realize the innovation necessary to become circular. Their support is key and the knowledge we develop together can also benefit other stakeholders who seek to reduce their own environmental impact.”

The Circular Manifesto outlines KPN’s goal of minimizing its carbon and environmental footprint even as the volume of data traffic is expected to continue to grow exponentially.

Betty Cui, VP of ZTE Corporation, says:

"ZTE attaches great importance to the effect of our operating activities on the environment. We actively fulfill our environmental protection responsibilities and take into full account the environmental impact of each operating link and the environmental requirements through the product lifecycle. We implement the green and environmental protection strategy in all our business fields and promote the industrial chain and the society to fulfill the environmental protection responsibilities together through new products and services with higher commercial values and environmental protection efficiency. In 2016, ZTE established the energy management system and passed through the ISO50001 certification, continuously explored innovative energy saving and emission reducing solutions, and increased our environmental protection efforts.”

Further information regarding the KPN Circular Manifesto can be found on the KPN website.
