08 March 2016: Inmarsat and Turksat, the Turkish state-owned regional satellite operator, today formalised their partnership at a contract signing ceremony held during Satellite 2016 at National Harbor, MD USA.
In December 2015, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding signalling their mutual intent to form a strategic partnership to enhance opportunities for both companies.
With today’s signing of the strategic partnership agreement, Inmarsat becomes the preferred mobile satellite communications provider for Turksat, broadening its coverage in the region.
Broadened portfolio
Turksat can now offer a significantly broadened portfolio of mobile satellite products and services to its customers in Turkey, EMEA, the Caucuses and Central Asia. Inmarsat will also be able to offer Turksat satellite services to its customers in the region.
Initially, the two companies will focus on delivering L-band and Global Xpress services to the Government, security, defence, maritime and aviation sectors. In the mid to long term, the companies will expand their coverage to all sectors and government organisations.
“We are very pleased to have officially cemented this agreement with Turksat and look forward to working with our newest partner to bring the most reliable mobile satellite services to users in this region,” said Rupert Pearce, CEO, Inmarsat.
“While mutually beneficial to both companies, it is our Turkish and regional customers that will ultimately benefit from this strategic partnership as we are now able to offer a broader and more robust portfolio of mobile satellite communications services,” said Ensar GUL, Turksat.
