Hanoi, Vietnam - MobiFone will deploy a Nokia 100G Optical Transport Network (OTN) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) regional network from Ho Chi Minh City to more than 10 provinces in southern Vietnam. The new transport network will enable MobiFone, the country's market leader in mobile communications, to provide innovative and high capacity services in these key economic zones, home to a significant percentage of the operator's 40 million subscribers.

Nokia will provide the 100G DWDM solution with L1 Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) transport to support increasing traffic in these regions. Nokia's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) will help maximize network capacity and efficiency, enabling faster deployment of newer services. When deployed, the new transport network will be able to support increased traffic capacity of 300G and system expansion up to 8Tbps in future.

Nguyen Bao Long, Deputy General Director at MobiFone Corporation, said:

"It is critical for us to upgrade the transport network to add capacity, meet rising data demand in this key economic region and be in a position to deliver superior speed and quality of service. This is all the more important as MobiFone gears up to launch 4G services early 2017. Partnership with a technology leader like Nokia will allow us to differentiate ourselves and offer cloud-based mobile services to enterprises and retail customers."

Harald Preiss, head of Asia North at Nokia, said:

"With our innovative and proven 100G OTN solution, we are in a strong position to help MobiFone optimize its networks and open new and exciting opportunities for its subscribers. We are happy to support MobiFone to empower them to provide high-speed Internet and best-in-class service quality to its customers."

Details at a glance:

  • Nokia will provide complete installation and commissioning services for the initiative.

  • Nokia's innovative Optical Networking equipment, including 1830 PSS, would be used for the deployment.
