Altice Labs GPON technology is already being used in the high-speed network in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. The launch of the project was made by the Indian government last March 18, in a ceremony that was attended by the Executive Chairman of Cisco, John T. Chambers.
The government of Andhra Pradesh launched "AP Fiber Grid", the first broadband project in India, which is the first step in the realization of the dream of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of a Digital India where families, public institutions and companies have access to broadband connectivity.
AP Fiber Grid aims to provide broadband connectivity of 15 up to 20 Mbps, for families, and 100 Mbps up to 1 Gbps, to government institutions and companies, with a range that extends to the rural areas. This digital transformation will act as a promotional vehicle of social inclusion and sustainable growth of the Indian society.
The services supported by the AP Fiber Grid can be used in education, health and agriculture, opening up new perspectives in the area of e-governance and also enabling an efficient and transparent provision of citizen-centric services.
The provision of these services will be guaranteed by a robust and reliable network infrastructure supported in fiber which includes Altice Labs OLT equipments. OLT is the Optical Line Terminal equipment from Altice Labs GPON product family. For this project is estimated to provide 2500 OLTs in the first phase and 10.000 more in the second phase.
The commercial proposal was made through a local partner, Terasoft, which will open up business opportunities in that market for other equipments, such as the ONT (Optical Network Terminal).
The launch of the first phase of the AP Fiber Grid project took place on March 18 in Visakhapatnam, India, in a ceremony led by Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and in collaboration with the Executive Chairman of Cisco, John Chambers. In this ceremony were held telemedicine and videoconferencing sessions with classrooms for demonstrating the capabilities of fiber connectivity in improving health care and education.
The Future of Digital India starts here and includes Altice Labs technology.
Altice Labs has a complete portfolio of scalable and flexible GPON solutions which include all the necessary components for the set up of GPON networks.
