  • Ericsson Network Manager supports improved network performance and lower operational costs; provides high availability of critical network management applications and services; enables shorter upgrade times

  • Deployment marks first time Ericsson Network Manager goes live in an operator network

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has successfully deployed its next-generation unified network management system, Ericsson Network Manager (ENM), in Swisscom's 4G LTE network.

Ericsson Network Manager is a unified management system that provides operators with a common view of network resources and services. Operators are eager to adopt Ericsson Network Manager early in order to provide feedback on its functional evolution and to reevaluate and enhance their network domain operations and workflows.

The Swisscom deployment marks the first time that Ericsson Network Manager has gone live in an operator network.

Patrick Weibel, Senior Architect Wireless, Swisscom, says: "Ericsson is a long-time trusted partner for Swisscom. We have chosen to adopt Ericsson Network Manager early to provide feedback on its functional development and also leverage the Ericsson Network Manager's capabilities that are critical to our network and operational transformation."

Jan Häglund, Head of Product Area Network Analytics & Control, Ericsson, says: "We are delighted to reach this milestone together with a leading operator such as Swisscom. The latest Ericsson Mobility Report forecasts that mobile data traffic in Western Europe will grow nine times between 2015 and 2021, and Ericsson Network Manager is a great example of how Ericsson's technology leadership can help operators transform and thrive, both in this advanced market and globally.

"We look forward to working closely with Swisscom while leveraging their feedback to help shape the future evolution of Ericsson Network Manager."

Ericsson Network Manager will be available for all Ericsson LTE customers and markets in 2016. The management system will evolve to provide greater benefits, including the following:

  • Upgrade independence of the node - the ability to upgrade the nodes without requiring a corresponding upgrade in Ericsson Network Manager

  • All domain management applications' common view of network resources and services unified across multiple network technologies

  • Ericsson Network Management system deployment in the cloud

  • Virtual network function manager (VNFM) to manage VNF deployments.

  • Advanced analytics, optimization and automation applications
