Dtac in exclusive partnership with Viber

“Happy” by dtac and No. 1 chat application in Myanmar “Viber”, have teamed up to reach Myanmar customers living in Thailand. This is the first partnership of its kind for Telenor Group.

Through the partnership dtac will become Thailand’s first mobile phone network operator to truly focus on this type of service for Myanmar customers. In Myanmar, Viber has approximately 70% market share.

Initial phase is a success

The partnership that was launched in July has been a success so far. Statistics from September show that 450,000 stickers have been download, more than 16 million stickers have been used in messages and more than 25,000 people are now follwoing the official account.

“dtac has become the brand that captures the heart of Myanmar people who have lived in Thailand. This has urged us to come up with products and services for this group of customers. The experience of Happy as one of the first brands to communicate directly with Myanmar customers, told us that the value-for-money package is what attracts Myanmar customers most,” says Sigvart Voss Eriksen CMO of dtac.

Happy strategy has 3 focus areas

Going forward, Happy’s marketing strategies will center on three areas:

  • Good Network – Happy numbers operated on dtac network and SIM card package specially designed for Myanmar customers in both Thailand and Myanmar.
  • Good Product – Myanmar language-compatible mobile phones for the best convenience of customers.
  • Good Experiences & Engagement – variety of social media communication channels for Myanmar customers. ****

Viber enables dtac to reach out to more target customers

Telenor has been working with Viber since 2014. The partnership with Viber allows Telenor to bundle or Add-On the Viber service as a local offering in the market. Going Beyond instant messaging and VoIP services, Viber has also expanded into gaming and enterprise verticals.
