Coriant successfully demonstrates 200G and 400G single-lambda transmission in live network trial
Elastic Optical Network Trial over Live Fiber Links Showcases DWDM Transmission using a Bandwidth-Variable Transponder with 200G 4QAM/8QAM/16QAM over 610km and 400G 64QAM/128QAM over 80km
NAPERVILLE, Illinois, 22 March 2016 – Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced the completion of successful field trial testing that resulted in industry-leading achievements in optical transmission capacity, speed, and spectral efficiency using state-of-the-art flexi-rate optical modulation technologies.
The field trial, conducted over live fiber links in a 610km span of a leading European service provider's fiber optic network, showcased transmission of multiple single-lambda 200G channels (30x200G) over the full distance of 610km using multiple modulation schemes (QPSK, 8QAM, and 16QAM), with successful demonstration of bandwidth variable transponder capabilities and excellent margin performance. The trial also featured demonstration of multiple single-lambda 400G channels (30x400G) over 80km using 64QAM and 128QAM modulation formats. The field trial results represent industry-leading performance in capacity and distance for single-lambda transmission using variable modulation techniques in a live network environment. The error-free, low latency performance in the field trial was achieved using best-in-class technology innovation from Coriant, including software-programmable flexi-rate modulation based on Coriant CloudWave™ Optics, advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms, and sophisticated Forward Error Correction (FEC) codes.
Powered by Coriant CloudWave™ Optics, the 400G 64QAM and 128QAM field trial demonstrated ultra-fast transmission over a typical span of metro Data Center Interconnect (DCI) applications. As demand for high-bandwidth cloud applications such as video and cloud computing continue to grow over time, service providers will require DCI solutions capable of seamlessly scaling to higher speeds without sacrificing resiliency or power efficiency. Coriant CloudWave™ Optics is a key photonic layer technology that combines a leading signal processing engine, optimized integrated photonics, and embedded software intelligence that brings a new level of optical performance, efficiency, and scalability to infrastructure networks facing unprecedented traffic growth.
"The ability to maximize utilization of fiber optic resources at ever-increasing transmission speeds offers new opportunities for OpEx and CapEx efficiencies as service providers scale their infrastructure networks," said Uwe Fischer, Chief Technology Officer, Coriant. "We continue to advance these capabilities with innovations in our Coriant CloudWave™ Optics solution, which underpins our leadership in reach, speed, power efficiency, and resiliency – even under the most challenging fiber conditions."
This field trial was conducted in cooperation with the Celtic-Plus SASER (SAfe and Secure European Routing) project and the IDEALIST (Industry-Driven Elastic and Adaptive Lambda Infrastructure for Service and Transport Networks) project, among others.
