CEE and MEA security appliance shipments return to growth in 2016, according to IDC

07 Oct 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Prague — In the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Middle East and Africa (MEA), security appliance hardware shipments recorded strong growth of 23.8% in volume terms in the first half of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015. International Data Corporation (IDC) expects growth to continue for the second half of the year, but at a reduced rate of 9.8%.

"With an explosion of innovation and value creation, datacenter security is still at the core of the accelerating adoption of the 3rd Platform in CEE and MEA,” notes Mohamed Hefny, program manager with Systems and Infrastructure Solutions at IDC CEMA.

Unified threat management and next-generation firewall appliances are driving the market’s growth, accounting for almost three quarters of all shipment volume and half the total value.

Among security appliance vendors, Cisco claimed top position in the first half of 2016, with 22% value share of shipments to CEE and MEA. Fortinet and Check Point followed, with 16.4% and 14.7%, respectively.
