Broadcom Extends Mass Market Distribution Strategy to Include NetXtreme® Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Cards

Via Broadcom Newsroom

Jun 10, 2015

  • Strategic relationship with Avnet allows Broadcom to serve a much broader customer base
  • Delivers best-in-class power consumption via Energy Efficient Ethernet and design optimization
  • First Gigabit Ethernet cards to support 16 queues per port, raising the bar on virtualization performance

Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced the addition of two NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) adapter cards to its distribution channel portfolio. With more than 600 million Ethernet controllers shipped to date, the availability of Broadcom's field-proven NetXtreme technology through Avnet's vast distribution channel will further drive market-leading features and capabilities into the data center. For more news, visit Broadcom'sNewsroom.

Previously available only to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), the dual-port and quad-port Ethernet adapter cards provide value-added resellers (VARs), systems integrators and direct market resellers (DMRs) with a highly integrated, low power, energy efficient platform optimized to meet current and next-generation data-center requirements. Ideal for high-transaction environments requiring greater small packet performance, the NetXtreme GbE adapter cards provide full line-rate performance across all ports, and reduce adapter power consumption.

The NetXtreme GbE adapter cards leverage Broadcom's rich Ethernet intellectual property vault in switches and physical layer transceivers (PHYs) to ensure end-to-end interoperability and robustness of both hardware and software across the entire data center.

"As data center networks continue to be re-architected to meet heavier demands on latency, flexibility, performance and manageability, OEMs, VARs, system integrators and DMRs are moving to a highly resilient, virtualized approach," said Vincent Brocato, Broadcom Senior Director, Global Channel. "By making our unique NetXtreme board level products available to a broader customer base, we are rounding out our data center ecosystem, while at the same time deepening our commitment to the rapidly advancing networking community."

"Together, Avnet and Broadcom offer a scalable sales model that provides the structure and community ecosystem needed to meet increasing demand from thousands of distribution partners seeking access to Broadcom's market-leading Ethernet products," said Joseph Cousins, Vice President, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas, Global Computing Components. "By leveraging Avnet's vast distribution capabilities, Broadcom is able to serve a much broader customer base, while providing a growing number of channel partners with assured interoperability and OS support."

In addition to its portfolio of turnkey hardware and software platforms, Broadcom has invested in lowering the barrier to engagement through its comprehensive online support portal and support community. Moderated by Broadcom experts, each of the focused online communities is structured to provide developers with a collaborative environment to share ideas, solve challenges and advance product development.
