1Gbps nbn fixed wireless gigabit speed

In Ballarat, in Regional Australia, Nbn and Ericsson (working with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated and NetComm Wireless) have successfully demonstrated speeds of up to 1 Gigabit on TDD LTE. The demonstration utilized 3 three prototype NetComm Wireless Network Termination Devices Version 3 with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X16 LTE modem.

The groundbreaking 1.1Gbps downstream and 165Mbps upstream speeds were achieved in the existing nbn fixed wireless network by using carrier aggregation technology on 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz spectrum.

The demonstration with NetComm Wireless and Qualcomm Technologies also delivered speeds of 400Mbps/55Mbps, 250Mbps/50Mbps and 100/40Mbps using a range of carriers in the 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz spectrum bands.

In order to conduct the trial, nbn used a spare operating sector on an established nbn Fixed Wireless tower with additional radio equipment. The nbn Fixed Wireless tower delivered the record speeds to new Wireless Network Termination Devices [WNTDs] that had been installed on the roof of a nearby school.

nbn recently committed to launching a new nbn100 Fixed Wireless product aimed at the regional business segment in 2018, making it one of the few in the world to make such a commitment. The success of the ultra-fast Fixed Wireless demonstration underlines the ability to launch even faster services on the nbn™ Fixed Wireless network. Antenna

Bill Morrow, CEO of nbn, says: “Our demonstration of 1Gbps speeds on our Fixed Wireless network once again shows our commitment to delivering a great experience to the 600,000 premises in regional Australia that will be served by the network.

“Our Fixed Wireless network has already been recognized as a world leader and we are determined to maintain that position by making sure regional Australians get access to the same high speed broadband available in our cities.

Mike Finley, senior vice president, president, Qualcomm North America and Australia, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., says: “Our advanced cellular products and technologies, including our Snapdragon X16 LTE modem which supports Gigabit LTE speeds, underscore our ability to make these game-changing speeds and user experiences possible. We are excited to continue working with Ericsson, nbn, and NetComm Wireless to demonstrate our achievements with these technologies.”

Emilio Romeo, Head of Ericsson Australia & New Zealand, says: ”Ericsson has been nbn’s partner for the TDD fixed wireless network since its inception in 2011, and we are proud of our achievements with nbn to connect regional Australia, closing the digital divide. Ericsson looks forward to further evolving the fixed wireless service with nbn, Netcomm Wireless and Qualcomm, for the benefit of regional Australia.”

Gigabit LTE is part of Ericsson’s offerings for advanced and agile networks. In this report, Ovum names the nbn fixed wireless network as a world leader.
