AT&T Invests More Than $2.7 Billion Over Three-Year Period to Enhance Local Network in Dallas-Fort Worth Area

Investment Expands Access to Nation’s Strongest 4G LTE Signal, AT&T U-verse Services

DALLAS , April 14, 2015 — AT&T has invested more than $2.7 billion in its best-in-class wireless and wired networks in Dallas-Fort Worth between 2012 through 2014, driving a wide range of upgrades to enhance reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.

As part of its Project Velocity IP (VIP), an investment plan focused on network enhancement and expansion, AT&T in 2014 made 85 wireless network upgrades in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including new cell sites, addition of network capacity, and new wireless high-speed internet connections. Additionally, AT&T expanded the reach of its network, providing access to AT&T U-verse® High Speed Internet, AT&T U-verse video and AT&T U-verse voice services to 24,500 new customer locations.

Notable Dallas-Fort Worth network enhancements in 2014 included:

  • Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at the Marriott City Center in Dallas and the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas
  • Upgrades to the existing DAS at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Hyatt Regency Reunion Tower in Dallas, Sheraton Hotel Towers and Convention Center in Dallas
  • Expanding LTE to Collin Creek Mall DAS in Plano
  • Additional capacity at the American Airlines Center in Dallas
  • Increasing coverage at AT&T Stadium in Arlington

AT&T announced a major initiative in 2014 to expand the availability of U-verse with AT&T GigaPowerSM in up to 25 markets nationwide. Hundreds of thousands of customer locations across parts of Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Kansas City, Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem are able to sign-up for ultra-fast speeds up to 1 gigabit per second. AT&T has since announced it will deliver the AT&T GigaPower network to an additional 11 markets: Atlanta; Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C.; Chicago; Cupertino, Calif.; Houston; Jacksonville, Fla.; Miami, Fla.; Nashville, Tenn.; St. Louis and San Antonio.

AT&T operates an extensive Wi-Fi network including more than 34,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers, and provides access to more 1 million Hot Spots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers and U-verse customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly wireless data plans.
