Increased broadband speeds do not necessarily require network build-out, network restructuring can be just as effective. Over the last four weeks, 429,124 households in 386 towns and cities the length and breadth of Germany have benefited from Telekom's network modernization (IP migration). Additional lines with upload speeds of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbit/s) and download speeds of up to 40 Mbit/s are now available.

"We are a step closer to our goal of ensuring 80 percent of our lines operate at 50 Mbit/s or higher as soon as possible", said Walter Goldenits, Chief Technology Officer at Telekom Deutschland. "We are building fast Internet for millions of people."

But interested customers should note that they will need to be on the right rate plan to use the enhanced bandwidths. They can go to www.telekom.de/schneller (German only) to check if their lines are ready for higher speeds. The advisors at Telekom shops and specialist outlets, as well as at the free hotline (0800 330 1000) can also provide the information needed.
