November’s 3G World Congress and Exhibition in Hong Kong was
particularly notable because it demonstrated for the first time the
maturing not only of third generation technologies but also a more
realistic and accommodating approach between rival technology factions.
As 3G evolves and as the market for 3G services and applications
accelerates towards a critical mass that will propel 3G into a chain
reaction of mass consumer usage, the industry, vendors, interest groups
and operators alike, have come to the realisation that 3G, of whatever
particular local or regional flavour, will, by and large be based on
some form of CDMA.
And that, as you will see from the pages of this month’s Telecom TV
Review, is what happened - old animosities are being
forgotten and the focus is on getting 3G out there.
