About Tony Poulos

I've worked in and around the telco industry for 20 years mainly in software and solutions space of BSS. I live in Singapore write articles and do interviews for TelecomTV, head up the Revenue Management Sector at the TM Forum and speak or chair at lots of conferences. I read everything there is available on the industry and often feel compelled to air my own views or highlight the flaws in others.

" You raise some valid and interesting points but I can tell you that most fixed and mobile operators are more concerned at how they can share form what is being sold and delivered over their networks rather than simply becoming the medium of delivery. Mention ''big fat pipe'' to any communications service provider and they go pale. One of the most effective weapons in their arsenal is their ability to bill almost anything, no matter how small or how complex yet they continue to ignore its potential as a potential profit centre. The success of Apple''s AppStore model has shaken them but in the world''s biggest markets, most of them emerging, pre-paid is still king and they still hold the key. " When I was growing up in a high tourist area of Australia it was considered the height of good manners to learn to say hello and goodbye in a number of languages, not just as a courtesy to the visitor or your neighbour, but also as a sign of respect. Prime Minister Rudd is adept at this and even converses in fluent Chinese when on state visits to China. Being of Greek descent, I also copped some ribbing as well, but that''s all part of the Ozzie ethos. Where else in the world is being called an ''old bastard'' a sign of affection? I reckon Sol didn''t mix with the locals enough, preferring to hang out with his amigos, or should I say, ''buddies'' and take extended trips away. Maybe if he''d stayed his full term he''d have understood Aussie culture better. Maybe he''s ashamed of his own Mexican background, in which case he should be expecting some flack from Mexicans as well for showing them disrespect. Anyway, last time I went to the USA it seemed that half the population spoke Spanish. There were at least 30 TV channles only in Spanish and the directional signs in some towns were in both Spanish and English. Even his old mate George W. used to use ''adios'' publicly. Doesn''t matter now, I guess, and you''re right, there''s no reason for him to go back to Australia (he''d be mad to). However, he may want to brush up on his Spanish now that he''s back ''home''. " The calls are definitely terminated to the mobile number dialed. the femtocell just acts like a normal base station. In Singapore, calls to fixed or mobile numbers are treated identically and carry the same termination fees. There is no loading for mobiles as in many other markets.
