Global energy demand is growing by 1.6% per year, with no sign of it slowing. China and India account for over half of this increase, and collectively, non-OECD countries account for 87%. Moving towards smarter grids and smarter meters that will relay consumption information to the consumer and to the utilities companies, will create new revenue opportunities for the telecoms industry, whilst at the same time vastly reducing energy wastage.
