Vodafone’s CEO said he was pleased with Vodafone’s minority role in Verizon Wireless and the financial returns it gets, but was open to exiting the joint venture in the future. By Phil Goldstein
Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao said this week that the dividend payments Verizon Wireless has started giving back to Vodafone are “an extra layer of comfort”. A perennial question, however, is whether Verizon Communications will buy Vodafone’s 45 per cent stake in Verizon Wireless.
“Verizon Wireless is in the biggest, most attractive market in the world, and it’s the leading company in terms of management,” Colao said. “Having said that... the board formally twice a year, and perhaps even more, looks at the portfolio. We look at the pros and cons and we look at the situation and the board makes that decision.”
