Verizon Wireless plans to shut down its branded app store starting in January. By Sandhya Raman
US telco Verizon Wireless plans to shut down its branded app store and have its Verizon Apps application remotely removed from all devices by March 2013. Verizon launched its app store, originally branded as VCast Apps, in March 2010 as a hub for users to download apps for BlackBerry and Android. Last year, the carrier relaunched its app store in partnership with Chomp and rebranded the offering as Verizon Apps.
“We’re evolving our strategy to further simplify today’s experience and meet the needs of tomorrow,” stated Verizon in a blog post. It added that most apps available through Verizon Apps are also available through other app storefronts.
