Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and UK combined network operator Everything Everywhere have formed an alliance to develop the global M2M vending machine market. By Ian Scales.
The idea is to combine NSN’s VendMe application and Everything Everywhere's SIM cards to offer a global service for vending machine operators. The connectivity will be standardised on 3G.
The companies are promoting mobile M2M to vending machine operators on all the usual sales points - remote stock monitoring, the ability to take payment cards (instead of just cash), security, and so on. But they are also offering 'interactive' service possibilities by promising vendors the ability to send potential customers targetted messages if they are wandering in the vicinity, or getting them to sign up to social media so they can be alerted to buying opportunities.
They are also holding out the possibility of using NFC payments - perhaps through Orange Quick Tap (Orange is a partner in Everything Everywhere).
