Spending through the pain: operators flashing the cash despite downturn

Telecom and datacoms equipment sales actually held up relatively well through the recession, bolstered by the reporting currency being the US dollar (most currencies have appreciated against it) and the fact that the recession interrupted operators' business transformation programmes - they just had to spend their way through it. By Ian Scales.

In keeping with our policy of highlighting green shoots as they appear (as well as the less optimistic, see - Sony Ericsson posts more grim figures) we note that Infonetics Research has released some bullish analysis of the equipment market. 

In dollar terms, telecom and datacom equipment sales through 2008 actually grew by 8 per cent, according to  the research firm.
