Cloud computing has come a long way, but the latest trend will bring it much closer, in fact, all the way to the edge. According to VMware VP, Solutions and Products Gabriele DiPiazza, multi-access edge computing and the idea of bringing applications closer to users for latency sensitive use cases is ultimately dependent on cloud and virtualisation technologies. That’s where VMware intends to deliver a common MEC platform that enables telcos to build services, such as firewall and security, media transcoding and encoding and connected car applications.
