There’s a lot happening with the radio access network at the moment, with an increasing interest in the C-RAN and virtualisation. But how does all this fit with the evolution of LTE and how might it play in the development and likely needs of 5G? If we are indeed heading to a HetNet future, how will we manage backhaul for 5G HetNet orchestration? But developments in small cells and the RAN are not just being confined to dense urban environments, they are also relevant to rural areas.
