The industry will also inevitably have to adopt a 'blended' approach to generational issues with small cells, says Mike Schabel. When it comes to NFV, Alcatel-Lucent is finding that many of the functions now living at the access point belong at the access point. But in the longer run with the advent of cloud he can see functions being virtualised, moved about and techniques such as load balancing introduced with Gs 4, 5, and even 6 all being offered as a blended experience for delivering content. "We're going to have to use all the available facilities," he says.
