Sandra Rivera, Vice President, Data Center Group, General Manager, Network Platforms Group, Intel Corporation

Sandra says ‘openness’ is really is about having a framework where you can innovate, but where interoperatbility and modularity is important too. So for Sandra and Intel, the key aspect of ‘open’ is strong standardisation of the interfaces. That then enables differentiation in the code between the interfaces and not necessarily standardisation of the code blocks themselves. Most operators will be grappling with a hybrid environment for many years, so ‘pure’ open source is not going to be possible right away, she explains.
