Eric Debeau, Head of NFV Solutions, Orange

You can always write some code, says Eric Debeau, Head of NFV Solutions at Orange, but the real driver for NFV within telcos, he tells Tony Chan, is not technical, it's really about human collaboration - between teams, service providers and vendors. Eric explains that  NFV demands much deeper integration with VNF vendors, infrastructure vendors and hardware partners than was required in the past. Open source is important because, amongst other things, it avoids vendor lock-in, but an organisation like OPNFV is crucial because “you need to assemble many pieces, and in this case OPNFV is the right place to test components. Even if we don’t use an open source solution it helps to have a reference implementation.” OPNFV has proved to be a great success by playing that pivotal role.
