The new trend is to develop the cloudification of applications rather simply virtualise an existing appliance, says Darrell. “So what comes next?” asks Martyn Warwick. Microservices - that’s where you decompose the actual applications into tighter functions which similar applications can make use of, says Darrell. That means you not only get code re-use (always a good idea in software) but that standard microservices can be ‘spun up’ in the cloud to take over from a microservice that has failed. So Network Functions Cloudification (NFC) and microservices get you to true services agility AND resiliency. With NFC there should always be a spare function in the cloud ready to step in in the unlikely event that one falls over.
