Toby Ford, Assistant Vice President, AT&T

The recent OpenStack Summit in Barcelona was markedly different from other such gatherings by virtue of the number of telcos and service providers that attended the event, and as such, was prima facie evidence of OpenStack's progress and the emergence of a new dynamic for operators and a new and a transformational ecosystem to meet their needs. Toby Ford explains about the role OpenStack is playing in helping CSPs transform and virtualise their networks given that OpenStack was originally developed as an Infrastructure as a Service offering for enterprises. It has been quite a challenge to evolve the technology to meet the rigourous requirements of public telecoms carriers. He also talks about the importance of edge access computing and 5G.
