Ross Cassan and Rajesh Rajamani of Spirent explain that ecosystems such as HPE OpenNFV and Network Builders facilitate the development of pre-tested and pre-validated VNFs that, in turn, enable CSPs to concentrate on what they do best and not to lose focus by being sidetracked by tricky and expensive issues such as integration. What's more, VNFs enable NFV service development at the high speed of software rather than the slower pace of hardware. Rajmani and Cassan also point out that while various standards bodies are hard at work on NFV their various individual remits do not actually cover every aspect of the technology and thus it is important that companies such as Spirent step up to plug the gaps.
