NSN and Juniper Networks cosy up

It's being described as a "partnership expansion" to enable the vendors to hit one of the network sweet-spots: high-speed IP backhaul (with added security). NSN (now Nokia Solutions and Networks since Nokia's buy-out of Siemens) and Juniper Networks say they're going to work closely together on high-speed network techmnology to ease the introduction of LTE and LTE Advanced.

Because these will both be IP end-to-end networks the supporting technology must support low-latency transmission to enable time-sensitive applications (in particular voice) on the mobile access network,

The joint effort and new solutions from it will be in four areas:

- Next generation mobile backhaul: for mobile operators that need to upgrade and consolidate their backhaul networks to support LTE and LTE-Advanced architecture.

- Radio access security: to encrypt and firewall traffic coming into the mobile network over the LTE, as well as the 2G/3G radio access network.

- Mobile Site connectivity: for operators upgrading or extending their mobile infrastructure with the latest NSN products at the controller sites and at the mobile core.

- Carrier-grade NAT: for operators facing exhaustion of public IPv4 addresses and planning for IPv6 migration.
