Celebrating 3 Years of Open Source Cloud Development

Today we are happy to celebrate three years of open collaboration and development of the OpenStack Foundation and cloud computing platform. The goal of the OpenStack Foundation is to serve developers, users, and the entire ecosystem by providing a set of shared resources to grow the footprint of public and private OpenStack clouds, enable technology vendors targeting the platform and assist developers in producing the best cloud software in the industry. The OpenStack Foundation has followed the principles of open design, open development, open community, and open source to bring to life a ubiquitous cloud platform that allows anyone to run on it, build on it, or submit improvements.

Alcatel-Lucent is proud to be a part of the OpenStack effort, and we strongly support an open and multi-vendor approach in the development of our cloud solutions. Our solutions are open and extensible utilizing OpenStack as well as other open standard platforms. We know that for the majority of our customers are who want a scalable and agile cloud environment across their widely distributed set of resources, that the network must be leveraged for a programmable and well orchestrated cloud environment. Over the last 3 years, OpenStack has expanded in scope from compute and storage to include the network. The network is critical when it comes to optimizing cloud resource utilization and service placement that is tailored to customer requirements. Our CloudBand Platform and Nuage SDN solutions leverage OpenStack and our own APIs to achieve a programmable and network optimized cloud environment.

We look forward to continuing as a part of this healthy and vibrant OpenStack community and we are dedicated to providing a rich set of cloud solutions that help our customers deploy open infrastructures that avoid vendor lock-in.
