Karl May, President and CEO of Vello Systems, tells Martyn Warwick that software defined networking was designed to allow different types of solutions to be delivered to customers through open networking - the notion that you're no longer tied to a particular box.

Innovation, he says, is unleashed because hardware and software development cycles have been de-coupled. Separation of the innovation cycles leads to a richer variety of hardware systems with software that can be updated much more quickly.
