Ericsson and HP have connected up to integrate and cross-sell their WiFi, LTE and small cell technologies. There’s an awful lot of “groundbreaking, leveraging, innovation, ubiquity and seamlessness” going on, but essentially the two giants want to capitalise on a clear opportunity to bring WiFi and LTE indoors and stick them both on the same small cell.

This way they will be able to effectively bring together the two key wireless technologies to serve indoor spaces (where macro LTE has lots of problems) and, one senses, there must be great opportunities up ahead to start aggregating services across and between WiFi and indoor LTE to provide high bandwidth solutions at appropriate quality by balancing loads and aggregating channels.

To capture the business opportunity, Ericsson is incorporating Aruba's 802.11ac enterprise Wi-Fi technology into the Ericsson RBS 6402 indoor picocell. It claims that solution will work seamlessly with the rest of the Aruba Wi-Fi portfolio and with the Ericsson radio access network to deliver users pervasive connectivity indoors.

Ericsson and HP have also signed bilateral resale agreements so that Ericsson can offer Aruba's enterprise Wi-Fi and connectivity solutions along with Ericsson's portfolio of mobility solutions and global services to customers worldwide. The agreements allow HP to resell Ericsson's licensed band indoor small cell solutions.
