What is the relationship between NFV and 5G? Asks Guy Daniels at ETSI NFV 15. Our interviewees’ answers span all the way from “complementary’ to ‘extremely close linkage’. It’s pointed out that mobile operators are already ‘softwarising’ their networks because they need lots of agility and features to implement 5G properly. But it’s not that simple. Back in the day, when plans for 5G weren’t so advanced the SIG wanted to avoid mentioning candidate technologies so as not to appear biased. Today 5G has far advanced and so there is much more exploration of 5G needs.
