The Internet of Things represents a huge challenge for telcos, not just because of the vast numbers of devices, but also in how they are deployed. They can't be tested as smartphones are (some telcos reportedly spend $2m and several months just to get a single device on the network) as this is not going to scale. The process needs to be made easier and quicker. Smaller test facilities required, almost like self-certification, that checks if devices are safe to use. Then they need to be monitored much more closely when they are live on the network.
