Mark Lambe, Senior Technical Marketing Engineer, Cobham Wireless

Is NFV proceeding more slowly than envisaged? Mark tells Martyn Warwick that there is well-founded caution - everyone claims to be somewhat virtualised and so the carriers have to read through all the marketing material to try and work out if a particular approach is viable. But Test and Measurement (T&M) specialist Cobham Wireless had no doubts. It took a virtualised approach as far back as 2010 and is confident that virtualisation is the only way forward for T&M, probably hooking the emerging MANO stacks to do it. "If a carrier no longer wants prorprietary hardware solutions in its environment, you can't start introducing proprietary T&M hardware - you have to use their framework and ecosystem," says Mark.
