Cees Links, CEO, GreenPeak

GreenPeak is a Dutch-based semiconductor manufacturer producing one million chips per week, specialising on low-power data communications. The firm is a spin-off from AT&T Bell Labs, targeting applications in the connected home that require very long battery life, such as light switches, door locks, etc. One of its early applications is a remote control, with battery life of over ten years, which is longer than the expected useful life of the product. This, says GreenPeak, is the key for a successful connected home model – one where battery life becomes irrelevant and cells never need to be changed during the product's lifetime, hence the need for ultra-low power processors.
